I fully expected the whole thing to go completely off the rails […]

I’m sending this post to my husband. Elliott is ready for this, and even takes himself to the potty when he’s pantsless at home- we just haven’t pushed it outside of the house. I think it’d be an easy transition, if we could stand to be home a couple days in a row (which never happens).

For my kids, I used just a TINY bit of prune juice to make #2 softer, so it was really easy for them to “go”. We used stars on a chart to get to our goal. One star got a small treat, 5 something just a bit bigger, 20 was the mega prize. ;)
Also, on long trips we just took the potty chair with us. I brought water with us to rinse it out so it didn’t smell. Also, my kids were terrified of the auto flush toilets, so I would put a post it over the sensor, so it wouldn’t flush before they were ready. Then, they got to take the post it off to flush.

My almost 2 year old son has been pooping and peeing on the potty for a couple of months, but I haven’t been pushing him to do it regularly. Have never heard of this method! Hoping to try it out in the next couple weeks! We did cold turkey switching from bottles to sippy cups, so this sounds like my kind of training. :-)
