In my part of the country, the East Coast, vending machines charge $1.25 to $2.00. Better off buying a six pack of soda at the grocery store. Or better yet, cutting out soda altogether for health reasons.
All that aside. I totally understand the point you are trying to make, and I try to practice this myself. Mine usually has to do with taking the car to work, (instead of walking or public transport of which there is a lot) because I feel lazy, and then paying upwards of $25 in parking fees a day. (I’ve budgeted two times a month for bad weather and other unforseen circumstances, which still beats paying for the parking garage at $200 for the monthly rate)

They take 10 cents off for your mug and I save 50 cents for not adding syrup. It’s not much every little bit helps :)

It has been so easy for me to justify to myself that we are earning more and our expenses are low so we don’t have to pay as close attention to the budget. I feel like our savings goals are so huge that $25 here and there isn’t a big deal. But it is! Every bit adds up. So we try and ignore raises as best we can and funnel it into retirement or savings or something like that.
