We have never given up on buying books. As a matter of fact, the budget item for books was always very generous even during our most frugal times. We just love books. However, we also have a rule that books cannot just sit there to fill up our library. We must read them. I have my own informal rule that I stop buying books if I have at the most 7 books on my shelves that I need to read. I only allow myself to buy more books, when I have read all 7 – not just one to replenish my stack back to 7 again. This rule puts a ceiling on our generous budget allocation for books.

Your bookshelves look great!

One of my 43 things this year is not to buy another paper book, so I am also using the library and friends to keep myself immersed in good reads. I installed the Stanza app on my iPhone, which lets me read classics on it for free.

Here’s to frugality (although I am really happy to be in an old king sized bed instead of a double!!!)
