Wed, 17 Sep 2008 15:39:10 +0000http://livingwellforless.wordpress.com/?p=443#comment-205I’m a needlework and knitting person. In the days before the budget I fed the stash a LOT. I have enough materials for several YEARS of crafting. So I just “shop my stash” and then all I need to buy is any misc small items to finish a project (buttons for a sweater, floss if I run out of a color).
I am learning to frame my own pieces, because that’s a major expense on the needlework side. I do give myself a very small budget for those misc materials to finish projects. Those funds come out of my overtime income. I’ve also done some trading – my needlework store has given me credit if I let them hang my finished work as a store model for several months.

Finding free or inexpensive hobbies is so important in order to live frugally long term so that you can achieve your ultimate financial goals. Luckily mine include reading (free – borrowing and lending with friends, and the library), and cooking from scratch. Obviously have to buy the ingredients, but once you have a well stocked kitchen with the basics you need to buy less and less for each meal. And now I can entertain my friends for less – they bring wine, i feed them yummy food and everyone has a good time without spending more than £10. Beats an expensive restaurant anytime! Great site, btw :)

For me, I try to save money on things I don’t particularly care about (groceries, toiletries, things around the house, most entertainment, clothes) so that I can spend more on things I really enjoy.
